Composites in Olympic & Paralympic Sports: Past to present times

JEC has decided to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024, with a brochure demonstrating the close ties between composites and sports, and the increasing use of composites over the past years in many of the 18 Summer Olympic and Paralympic sports.

This document shows the evolution of the composites applications in the various disciplines up to present time, including description of processes, materials and future developments. Through this document you will discover how both sectors, composites industry and sports industry, are challenging themselves to innovate, to go faster, higher, stronger together, but also to be more sustainable.

To prepare this document, JEC commissioned Ignaas Verpoest, Emeritus Professor, Composite Materials Group at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Véronique Michaud, Head of Laboratory for Processing of Advanced Composites at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), and Helena Teixidó, PhD in Composites from EPFL, to document the history and its key milestones and achievements.
